Mother seated beside me
is an event of photograph
I am yet to attend.
The virtual is in the perception
of an outsider’s view;
it’s never a bird’s view
of seeing the figurehead of distance
the fool’s proof is in vision
and not the portrait.
But outside the photograph
I stand unwashed
by the chemical of clarity
that brings us to a proximal attachment
of mother and son
an event only memorable
at the memorial’s convenience.
And in the still motion
of life in its photogenic sarcasm
stands sunshine over us
illuminating the absence
that is never seen apart
from the photograph.
