Moirai | Sarah Adeyemo

Tonight, I moisturise my ankles with tenderness

& crawl into my past through the mouth of memories.

 

An ocean of tears is not hyperbole when I behold how

fate has peeled me like a tangerine into the palms of life.

 

I sit my past down like a doll, asking why those days were

as promising as the light of a sun. I am moulded with 60%

 

of water & 40% of fire; there are days when I feel like drowning

into belly of agonies & there are days when life touches me,

 

I emit flames. When the atmosphere is tense with silence, I tug my

unanswered questions into the pocket of burden. I pacify myself,

 

saying, who am I to question Moirai? In trembling ankles, I crawl back

with head echoing the whispers of Moirai, I am the shadow of life.
